Yesterday was my last day at the cafe for 4 weeks and my last night at half moon. It was a strange day. It started with a very "interesting" guy coming into the cafe. He was yelling and screaming about who knows what... something about becoming president He kept making loud screeching noises. But somehow he got it together to order his coffee (as you do). He's harmless, so he didn't get kicked out. Eventually he left to catch the bus and left a strange assortment of things on his table... but did manage to drink his coffee in between screams. We all giggled and life went on. Then a man in a florescent pink and yellow cowboy hat started a conversation with me. He was also special, and called me a "yankee". He ordered one pineapple ring and sat outside and ate it and then moved on. Not an hour later some people helped a man in a wheel chair through our door. Then I noticed that he was missing both his legs. Cut off above the knee. He was left at a table I guess the people who helped him weren’t with him. I noticed him sitting alone and thought that I would have to serve him or he wouldn't eat. We don't usually serve people, you order and pay at the counter. So I looked after him for awhile and there was a bit of a debacle getting him out of the door again... to make many long stories shorter, I was really affected over the thought of having no legs. I went home and then went on to the caravan park. There we talked about the little boy who has been coming to the mosaic classes and who had missed the last class. It would seem that his dad just got arrested for theft. The mom took the boy and left. They might not be back to the park. It would also seem that his mom and dad sell his meds so they can buy their drugs... there's a few more, but I'll stop there. The day ended with great generosity by a couple of friends giving us a huge Christmas gift. Being at the caravan park was the highlight of my year. Hopefully next year we will start a new project there. I love being there and I love the people there. They are God's chosen ones... pray for them...
