Why did God invent prayer?

I can't think of a prayer story off the top of my head tonight. All I can think of is why I started this topic. Yesterday we went and saw the movie V for vendetta. Seeing that reminded me to get to the point of why I started this topic;

Why did God invent prayer?

In my opinion God invented prayer to talk. So that we would talk to Him and so that He could talk to us. I think that is the point of all the disciplines... communion with God. Why is communion with God so important? Why would it be the most important thing in life? Is it the most important thing in life?

Considering that Jesus left us here with His spirit to be His body, I consider being in communion with Him of the utmost importance. One of the things that I really love about Jesus is that He gave us the same spirit that He had to enable us to do the things He did... and the people who already feel able are the ones who are the least able. Make since? No, it shouldn't. God's kingdom is upside down. The problem is that we as Christians still give power to the able people. Even the ways our churches are structured say that there are a few important/able people who hear from God, and we are the rest... The truth is that we all hear from God. That we all have a personal responsibility to each other.

I'll go into this more soon... too tired to get into it more now... but wanted to start in the direction...

Here's some words from a Ben Harper song that I find appropriate;

It will make a weak man mighty.
It will make a mighty man fall.
It will fill your heart and hands or leave you with nothing at all.
It's the eyes for the blind and legs for the lame.
It is the love for hate and pride for shame.

That's the power of the gospel.
That's the power of the gospel.
That's the power of the mighty, mighty power.
That's the power of the gospel, well.
That's the power of...

Gospel on the water,
Gospel on the land.
The gospel in every woman,
And the gospel in every man.
Gospel in the garden,
Gospel in the trees.
The gospel that's inside of you,
Gospel inside of me.

That's the power of the gospel.
That's the power of the gospel.
That's the power of the mighty power.
That's the power of...
That's the power of the gospel.

In the hour of richness,
In the hour of need.
For all of creation comes from the gospel seed.
And you may leave tomorrow and you may leave today,
But you've got to have, got to have the gospel when you start out on your way.
